Autumn

 Your laughter in the wind,

Your warmth in the golden light

Autumn never felt real

Until you arrived.

The Art of Talking to Yourself (Expert Level)

They say talking to yourself is a sign of madness.

I say it’s a sign of management - emotional, mental, and occasionally spiritual.

After all, who else understands my sarcasm, my overthinking, and my highly specific craving for a second round of tea at 9:30a.m.?

I’ve been talking to myself for years now. What started as harmless muttering has evolved into full-blown board meetings. There’s Motivational Me, Overthinking Me, Hungry Me, and Trying-to-Sleep Me.

We don’t always agree, but we do have great attendance.

Motivational Me: “You’ve got this!”

Overthinking Me: “But what if you don’t?”

Hungry Me: “We should eat first.”

Trying-to-Sleep Me: “Can everyone please shut up?”

I’ve realized that self-conversation is the best kind of multitasking — therapy, planning, and entertainment rolled into one.

You can practice arguments you’ll never have, rehearse witty comebacks you’ll never use, and replay embarrassing moments from 2003 with improved dialogue.

And the best part? There’s no judgment. You can contradict yourself mid-sentence and still win the debate.

Sometimes, my inner dialogue gets so dramatic, it deserves background music.

So, if you ever catch me whispering to myself at odd hours, don’t worry. I’m not losing it - I’m just having a staff meeting with myself.

The Day My To-Do List Rebelled

The Day My To-Do List Rebelled

It started like any other day — with unrealistic optimism and a strong cup of tea.

Armed with my notebook and a fancy pen (because fancy pens make you feel productive), I sat down to conquer the world. “Let’s do this,” I said. My to-do list smirked.

1. Exercise.

My body immediately objected. “Why jog when you can emotionally run from responsibilities?” it asked. I nodded. Point taken. Moved it to “later” — which, in my language, means “never.”

2. Eat healthy.

The fridge laughed, my stomach laughed. Loudly. Between a sad cucumber and a gulab jamun, we all knew who was going to win. Let’s just say, the gulab jamun didn’t survive the morning.

3. Clean the house.

This one stayed on the list for moral support. A clean house is a state of mind, right? Besides, clutter adds character — and mystery.

4. Reply to emails.

I opened my inbox, saw 237 unread messages, and decided it was better for everyone’s mental health if I didn’t. Productivity sometimes means knowing your limits.

5. Relax.

Ah, the ultimate irony - scheduling relaxation. I tried meditating but kept thinking about the gulab jamun I’d just eaten and the workout I didn’t do. Enlightenment postponed.

By evening, my to-do list was untouched, except for one proud checkmark next to “Make a to-do list.” Small victories count.

So I did the only logical thing: tore it out, crumpled it up, and made a new one titled “Things I Might Possibly Do Someday.”

And honestly? That list and I — we understand each other perfectly.

When Joy Meets Judgement

There’s a strange kind of silence that follows certain words, the kind that doesn’t come from peace, but from pain.

You share a small victory with someone close,  maybe you got appreciated at work, maybe a client finally recognized your effort, maybe someone paid you for something you poured your heart into. You’re not boasting; you’re happy. You just want to share that happiness, the joy of being seen, of being valued.

And then, from across the room or the phone, comes that one line that cuts deeper than you expect

“Why are you so desperate for money?”

For a moment, you’re stunned. You weren’t even talking about money. You were talking about effort, recognition, the satisfaction of knowing that your work meant something to someone. But suddenly, your joy is reduced to greed. Your pride in your craft is mistaken for material need.

You want to explain - that it’s not about the money, that you don’t need it, that what you really crave is acknowledgment. That feeling when someone, somewhere, looks at what you’ve created and says, “This is good.”

But you don’t say it.

You smile.

You change the topic.

You quietly add that moment to the list of small hurts you’ll never speak about.

Because explaining sincerity to cynicism feels pointless.

Because joy, once questioned, loses its shine.

Because some people only understand worth when it’s tied to wealth.

And so, you stay silent, not because you have nothing to say, but because you’ve learned that sometimes, silence protects your joy better than words ever could.

Later, when you’re alone, you replay that moment. The initial spark of happiness, the sting of dismissal, and the slow settling of calm. You tell yourself it’s fine. You tell yourself you know your worth. And you do.

But somewhere deep down, you also wish, that one day, people would learn to celebrate others without measuring, to listen without judging, to simply say, “I’m proud of you.”

Until then, we’ll keep smiling through the small insults.

And keep finding joy, quietly, in the simple act of being seen.
