They say talking to yourself is a sign of madness.
I say it’s a sign of management - emotional, mental, and occasionally spiritual.
After all, who else understands my sarcasm, my overthinking, and my highly specific craving for a second round of tea at 9:30a.m.?
I’ve been talking to myself for years now. What started as harmless muttering has evolved into full-blown board meetings. There’s Motivational Me, Overthinking Me, Hungry Me, and Trying-to-Sleep Me.
We don’t always agree, but we do have great attendance.
Motivational Me: “You’ve got this!”
Overthinking Me: “But what if you don’t?”
Hungry Me: “We should eat first.”
Trying-to-Sleep Me: “Can everyone please shut up?”
I’ve realized that self-conversation is the best kind of multitasking — therapy, planning, and entertainment rolled into one.
You can practice arguments you’ll never have, rehearse witty comebacks you’ll never use, and replay embarrassing moments from 2003 with improved dialogue.
And the best part? There’s no judgment. You can contradict yourself mid-sentence and still win the debate.
Sometimes, my inner dialogue gets so dramatic, it deserves background music.
So, if you ever catch me whispering to myself at odd hours, don’t worry. I’m not losing it - I’m just having a staff meeting with myself.
