The Abandoned Letterbox

The old letterbox
Bereft
Of it's old glory
Stands forlorn
Battered, alone
A witness
To so many letters
And emotions galore
A wife's wait
For beloved's word
Grandma's joy
At baby's birth
Heartbreak
Sad tears
Of a loved one's
Passing away..

It stands now
Abandoned, forgotten
No postman
To deliver
No person that waits
Never given
A second glance
It remains ignored
No one to appreciate..

I feel a strange
Connection to it
And write a letter
Filled with hope
Warmth and love
And leave it
Maybe someday
Some old soul
Will read it
And find solace
Until than
Let it adorn
The old letterbox

  1. It's so soulful that I fail to exoress how has it touched....the depth can only be felt by those who bear such cherished memories of not so expendive yet immensely precious emotions of life....my regards

    1. Thank you Saibal. For me, letters were like creating memories.. I feel so much more connected to a hand written letter than a typed email..but it's a dying art now unfortunately.

  2. That you thought of the solitary letterbox and decided to give it company by filling it with a precious letter, speaks volumes of your empathy and goodness :)
Surely, the one who will discover your letter will experience such joy!
